Long Day

Today was a rest day for most of the girls, however, there was a walkthrough for me and Myisha (my American teammate) and some of the Chinese players came to help us learn the plays. We were able to get some shots up after the walkthrough and then I got a little treatment done with the PT. After that, we went lunch with some of the girls and the translator. We went to a place called HotPot, where you cook your own food at the table in pots of boiling water. They ordered a TON of food. I’ve never seen people eat so much in my life. They started eating before we (me and Myisha) got there and they were still eating after we finished. I had beef, noodles, and the best lemonade I’ve ever had in my life.

My Chinese teammates were trying to get Myisha and me to try the bugs they ordered… yes, that’s right… bugs. I don’t know what kind of bugs, I couldn’t tell honestly. Maybe some kind of beetle or something. Neither of us tried them but my teammates claim they are delicious.

After lunch, the girls wanted to take us to the mall. They took me what I would call a toy store. It had lots of different figurines and stuffed animals from different shows and cartoons. I bought a little stuffed penguin keychain to make them happy. They also made me try the Tanghulu that was being sold outside the mall. Tanghulu is fruit dipped in boiling sugar and then put in ice water to create a crystalized sugar coating. I got the strawberries and they were pretty good but messy. I also regrettably mentioned that I like milk tea with boba so they wanted to take me there as well. I was super full at this point but I didn’t want to disappoint them because they were so excited to show me everything so I still got a drink. We also hit the market again since we were at the mall. I was able to checkout without any help this time and paid easily with one of the apps they use.

By the time we left the mall, it was dark and I was ready to lay down. Myisha and I headed back to the hotel and I plan to rest for the remainder of the “rest day.”

Pronunciation Guide:

Myisha = my – E – shuh

Tonghulu = tong – who – loo
